University of North Texas student's story brings horrors of trafficking home to Dallas-Fort Worth PDF Print E-mail

Given Kachepa became an orphan at age 9. Two years later, he came to the U.S. as a member of the Zambian Acapella Boys Choir. He sang but without joy. Five or six concerts a day meant meals were skipped and school was put aside.

"I was a disposable tool to make money," said Kachepa, now a senior at the University of North Texas. "Trafficking looks like me."

Kachepa, 22, puts a local face on what is recognized as one of the top criminal industries in the world, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Human trafficking happens everywhere – even in Texas.
