Exit 58 – A New Initiative in the Fight Against Human Trafficking PDF Print E-mail

Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) partners with Transport for Christ (TFC) in the effort to fight human trafficking. As part of that fight, TFC has begun a new initiative called Exit 58 which has excellent resources for truckers to share with the people they know or to make use of themselves, as needed.

Because human trafficking has significant links to pornography, prostitution and trucking, TFC has taken the biblical command of Isaiah 58:6 as the goal of Exit 58.

Exit 58 can provide drivers with answers to these questions:

·         Now that you’re more aware of human trafficking, do you need help thinking through how to respond?

·         Do you struggle with guilt because you knew ‘something bad’ was going on and didn’t do anything about it?

·         Are you concerned that your children may be at risk for running away from home and potentially becoming ensnared by trafficking?

·         Did you participate in a situation that involved someone being trafficked and feel guilty for that now?

·         Are you involved in a pornographic or sexual habit that may be fueling trafficking?

Through Exit 58, TFC can help drivers determine if they have a sexual addiction by teaching them to know the signs, such as …  Is your sexual behavior…

·         Secret?  If people close to you found out about what you’re doing, would they disapprove?

·         Abusive?  Does it create emotional or physical pain for you or others?  Is it degrading or exploitive of others? Do you derive pleasure from watching others being abused?

·         Used to deaden painful feelings? Do you use it to change your mood rather than express affection or love? Do you turn to it when your depressed, bored or angry?

·         Empty of genuine commitment and caring?  Are you substituting the illusion of intimacy provided by an object or event for genuine intimacy found in healthy relationships?

·         Affecting your job performance? Your relationships at home with your spouse or children? Ex: Divorce, loss of parental rights, etc.

·         Causing you to take bigger and bigger risks?  Such as violations of the law or using victims for your sexual pleasure?  Ex: prostitution, helping traffickers to transport girls in exchange for sex, exhibitionism, voyeurism, touching someone intimately without consent?

·         Causing you to commit more serious crimes in which severe damage is done to the victim?  Ex: rape, incest or child molestation or experimentation with bondage or other fetish behavior

TFC can provide drivers with resources to overcome a sexual addiction through the following avenues:

·         TFC chapels manned by trained chaplains who can provide:

o    a listening ear (and heart)

o    prayer

o    studying God’s word on the subject of sexuality

o    accountability for those struggling with addiction on less severe levels

o    suggested books for further understanding on the subjects

o    support group effect:  drivers can go to any of our chapel locations across North America for support

o    DVD & Study Guide called ‘Somebody’s Daughter’ that drivers can use session by session across the country at any TFC location. www.somebodysdaughter.org.

And for special circumstances where immediate intervention is needed:

·         Access to a confidential helpline with a trained Care Guide from The Lighthouse Network.  They can connect drivers to counseling, addiction or psychiatric care through a national database:  877-562-2565, ext. 103 or 112 or www.lighthousenetwork.org.

Truckers Against Trafficking

Create a Display

Creating display space for Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) materials is a good way to create awareness of the human trafficking issue and educate members of the trucking industry on what they can do to fight it. This photo shows space created in the back main hallway of the Knoxville West TA TravelCenter for TAT materials. Drivers stop by all the time to read the material and take a wallet card. This TravelCenter also has a spot for TAT materials at their fuel desk and service bay waiting area.
